ALUMINA JETTY DESIGN CHANGES

Written by Byrne Looby | 17 August 2020

ByrneLooby appointed resident engineers for the alumina importing jetty in Bahrain.

2019, saw the completion of structural design for an extension for the alumina importing jetty in Bahrain. To complete the construction, an existing mooring dolphin was planned for demolition making way for the new extension to complete the build.

ByrneLooby, the appointed resident engineers for the client, proposed a Value Engineering solution to incorporate the mooring dolphin into the jetty extension, thereby saving the project time, making construction safer and providing a more environmentally friendly and sustainable solution. The proposal was accepted, the design was issued, and development is currently underway.

ByrneLooby, tasked with confirming structural and construction feasibility of the Value Engineering solution, completed a detailed engineering design of the modified jetty structure and foundations. This involved a full CAT III design check of the jetty extension to ensure the modifications perform to the same specifications as the original design.
