Official Completion of Bandon Flood Relief Scheme, Cork

Written by Byrne Looby | 21 December 2022

On December 9th, 2022, the Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, Patrick O'Donovan, unveiled a new plaque to mark the completion of the €30.5m Bandon Flood Relief Scheme. The scheme is one of over 50 completed projects in Ireland as part of the government's National Development Plan, which includes an investment of €1.3 billion over 10 years to address the country's flood risk.  The OPW delivered this Flood Scheme in partnership with Cork County Council. Representatives from ByrneLooby-Ayesa, including our Technical Directors, Kieran Thornton and Seán Harrington, attended the unveiling ceremony to mark the completion of the Flood Relief Scheme at Bandon, County Cork. Byrnelooby, An Ayesa Company, played an essential role as the project's lead engineering consultant across all phases.

The Minister commented on the importance of these projects and their impact on Irish communities:

“All OPW flood relief schemes, such as the one here in Bandon, factor in climate adaptation at all stages of planning and works and, in doing so, we ensure that homes and communities across the country will be protected when it comes to facing the effects of climate change.”
