  • Groundbreaking collaboration with Madrid City Council

Ayesa, a global provider of technology and engineering services, is at the forefront of pioneering sustainable transportation systems and networks. This project involves a groundbreaking collaboration with Madrid City Council, resulting in the creation of Europe's largest vertical garden, spanning an impressive 3,280 square meters.

Known as "Calle 30 Natura," this innovative project represents a €4 million investment, driven by a dual purpose to merge aesthetics with sustainability. It forms an integral part of the city's strategy to deliver green infrastructure, adapting to the challenges of climate change.

The M30, Spain's busiest ring road, records a staggering 1.1 million daily vehicle trips. Ayesa's design aims to mitigate the environmental impact of this extensive road network. It addresses multiple concerns, including combating the urban heat island effect, curbing emissions, reducing noise pollution, and preventing illegal graffiti.

Upon the request of the General Directorate of Mobility Planning and Infrastructure within the Madrid City Council, Ayesa has masterminded the transformation of 400 meters of M30's retaining walls, located between the Mariano Salvador Maella and New Zealand roundabouts. This remarkable feat involved the installation of a modular metal structure, covered with over 110,000 plants of 23 different varieties. These plants are carefully selected for their durability, minimal water requirements, and their exceptional ability to absorb pollutants from the surrounding environment.

To ensure the thriving health of this verdant oasis, a centralized and sectoriseed irrigation system, equipped with various sensors, has been implemented. Each individual module or panel boasts a network of pipes at varying heights, complete with drippers designed for varying flow rates, facilitating optimal water usage and recovery.

As a testament to their commitment to sustainability, pollution sensors have been strategically integrated into the design. These sensors actively monitor the levels of pollutants, encompassing CO, CO2, NO, NO2, and PM, forming a comprehensive monitoring system. The real-time data collection will not only gauge the immediate impact of the garden but also provide essential insights into its evolution over time.
