Iona & Fionnphort Breakwater & Berthing Facility

Iona & Fionnphort Breakwater and Berthing Facility

Argyll and Bute Council are responsible for the development and maintenance of infrastructure to support local ferry operations. They propose developing an overnight berth and the development of breakwaters to improve connectivity between the Isle of Mull and Isle of Iona. The ferry operating between the two islands is often hampered by adverse weather conditions, resulting in islanders being stranded.

Our Role

Argyll and Bute Council engaged Ayesa to carry out a feasibility study for proposed coastal protection structures and an overnight berth. Ayesa provided numerical wave modelling investigations to input into the preliminary design of breakwaters.

Ayesa coordinated a sedimentation analysis study to determine the level of contaminants in the overburden. Ayesa procured and administered site investigation, including securing a Marine Scotland Licence for same.
